Kids Matter Internet Safety

Personal Details

S  Keep your personal information safe.
S  Never give your real name, address or phone number to anyone you do not know in the real world.
S  Use a nickname or avatar when you are online.


S  Tell a responsible adult if you see something online, that upsets you.
S  Teasing or being mean is not cool and could be cyberbullying. Be nice when sending messages.
S  Make sure online information about you is as positive as possible.
S  Look out for yourself and for others.

Social Networking

S  Make sure you have a grown-up’s permission to use a new site or app.
S  Think before you post photos online – You cannot control who sees it or shares it.

Internet Use

S  Hide your password.
S   Share your password only with your parents - never with your friends.
S  Someone else could go online pretending to be you and do something that could get you into trouble.

Staying Safe Online

S  Call Kids Helpline – they provide free and confidential online and phone counselling
S  1800 55 1800
S  You can take steps to stop cyber bullying by making a complaint to the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner
